In a great start to the New Year, Glenn McGovern won a record jury trial judgment of $600,000 (plus costs and attorney’s fees) on behalf of Charles Nugent and Louisiana Cleaning Systems, Inc., versus Sheriff Andy Brown of Jackson Parish.

Glenn represented company owner Nugent and five of his employees, Kirby vacuum cleaner salespersons. The jury unanimously found that Sheriff Brown and his department violated the First Amendment rights of the salespersons by preventing them from soliciting door-to-door with a permit and evicting them from Jackson Parish.

The Sheriff was found to be deliberately indifferent towards the violating actions of his deputies acting under color of law, which falls under 42 U.S. Code §1983 of the Civil Rights Act of 1965.
